Art Republic is a platform dedicated to art and new technology in public and online space. The platform explores the relation between image, sound and architecture – seeking to expand the borders of the cinematic experience. Art Republic curates and commissions moving images, interactive (immersive) site-specific art installations and online screenings.
The projects created aim to reflect the contemporary and inter-disciplinary potential that finds place in the meeting between art, technology, social design and public space. The curatorial research finds motivation in exploring present-day social, political, and ecological issues. The production aims to expand the virtual experiences and to be accessible for people in their everyday life. The platform enforces social design qualitative and accessible augmented and virtual worlds, and through this investigate new aesthetic experiences also reaching the visually impaired community.
Through its local and international network within media art, academia, tech and innovation, Art Republic excavates the latest research and developments in the field of moving image and sound. It collaborates with several art organizations and institutions aiming to strengthen their program, mediation and collections with these artistic formats.
The platform was founded and directed by curator Daniela Arriado in 2012. It finds place in both Norway and Germany, and it brings along an extensive international list of curators, producers and designers.
Founder and Artistic Director
Daniela Arriado is a Chilean-Norwegian Curator. In 2012 she founded Art Republic, and in 2013 the Screen City Biennial (SCB). Her curatorial practice is dedicated to video art and to the expanded moving image. Her earlier projects concern urban screens and the development of online exhibition platforms for video art and animation, enforcing the distribution and dissemination of the moving image to the public. Arriado is a curatorial advisor for art organizations, galleries, fairs and collectors. She is a member of IKT - International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art, PNEK - Production Network for Electronic Arts, Norway, and The Norwegian Association of Curators. She commutes between Berlin and Stavanger.
